Default head help

What are you guy's doing with these iron heads to get these times? Other than porting and valve's what's going on? I was looking at adding a turbo to my 496, but due to unforeseen issues I can't do that right now. I have a set of 670's that need to be rebuilt. I'm trying to get my 79 TA in to the mid to low 10's.

No problem, open up the bowls and have ferrea valves installed with a good valve job and good guides. The rest of the combination depends on compression.

So now let me get this straight you guys are running 3000lbs plus cars with iron heads and getting into the 10's or faster? This is cool, I was told by a (big to me pontiac engine builder) that I would only make about 550hp with my 670's. This is what I'm looking @ right a 400 bored .060 over with around 12:1 comp pistons, 670's that will be ported, a 4.50" crank, 6.700" BBC rods and a Torkker intake port matched to the heads. Also a 850-950 cfm holley and a roller cam that was designed by a friend with Comp Cams ( he won't let me give spec's) but LS is 106 and Don't tell him LOL Lift @.050 is around .600". Putting it in to my 79 TA with hoods and doors from VFN. As soon as I get back on my feet I'll be building a turbo motor with Jeff . That one we will be looking at around 1500hp. But this one I hope to hit mid to low 10's. Oh and running 4.10 gears with 315-60/15's.

I don't know, but what can you get a 670 head to flow, 250-270 cfm. Rule of thumb for making HP... is flow number X two plus 10%. At 250 cfm that's 550 HP @ 270 cfm is 594 HP. Should be possible to make 594 HP. With the right guy porting the heads.

Yeah not sure on this, l was working with Jeff to build a turbo motor, but my mom came down with cancer and I'm paying for all of her medical needs now.. So I'm going to have to go a little cheaper for now. I don't want to sound like an fng but I'm still trying to learn the Pontiac motors.

Went 10.40 with a set of 16 d ports. They only flowed 220 and this was in a 3400 pound car. There is a lot more to it than head flow.

I'm hoping to get my TA down around 3200lbs.

with proper comp. and right cam intake combo. 670's can make 600HP. and should have no trouble getting a 3400 into mid to high 10's in most parts of the country.

I agree, seen many of D-Ports run mid 10's. But the whole combenation has to be right from rear gear to convertor and cam choice, carb.

Gallopin' Goat goes 9.90s with 670 heads (no adders). Race weight is right at 3,200 (depends on what Gene had for dinner...).

This is no "punk" build, though. A .030 over 455, it uses an UltraDyne solid roller, 13:1, BME rods, Victor, 1000HO, etc. It's already cracked one block (in the bulkheads). We're collecting parts now for a 505 with an IA-II block. We shall see...

LOTS of port work.

FWIW
