Well maybe this year...last 2 passes of the year...10.9982 at 122.58 and 10.9509 at 123.60 with a 1.567 60ft!Not a bad 60 for a 3200 stall 3.08 gears and 3800 lbs!

Guess I should change the title ..to 10 second street car!Different launch technique..stalling up higher against the brakes and a better burnout...Now I need to install my linelock! This sounds familiar.....

Curious how you get a 3.08 to hook for that fast a time. I have a 3.08 Zoom set ring and pinion in the car my 444 is going in and was wondering whether I should use it. It is coupled with an Auburn gear posi unit both relatively new in a 71 factory 10 bolt. Not sure what leaf springs to use, was going to just order set from Ames Perf in NH and couple with a set of Cal-Trac bars. May use frame connectors too.
Thinking about gear ratios I picture 3.08 vs 4.11 trying to move the car 333 ?(tire perimeters) for every 1000 rpm from a standstill while the 4.11 roughly 250 ? (tire perimeters). I know actual ratio is not that from standstill but % should be close apple to apple. Both movements with equal amounts power applied .. seems the 4.11 would have better luck. In order to have the 3.08 have the same chance the amount of power applied would have to be increased by roughly 30%. Driveline would need to tolerate that power and tires need to hook with it. Looking for tips to get there, was thinking boost for the power end of it.

Keith, usually gear and tire diameter is figure out by what rpm you want to go though traps at. Usually you want to go through traps about 500 rpms above were your making peak HP.

Allot depends on what rpms..the motor making peak torque and hp.

I think a 65 GTO 389 Tri Power came though with 3.08 gear. Those motors red line at 5200-5500. Tight 1500 stall convertor. Also allot depends on torque convertor on what gear you can get away with. With 3.08 gear I’m betting a 3500 stall would be the limit before you smolder tires.

My 64 GTO was 2spd automatic(Turbine 300??), still has 3.23 10 bolt posi in it. Was a 2.73 or 2.56 .. I changed the rearend in Hawaii and had pulled 3.23 out of a 64 GTO hardtop wreck in junkyard. The motor and trans I put in then was 400/TH400 from 69GP. My previous 65 Tempest/389 had original 2.56 with 4spd I had changed out in Beaufort SC for a 3.55. I remember it was real easy to spin the tires with the 3.55 but I missed the 1st gear till 70mph street feel ... that combo would spin the clutch instead of tires off the line but would make the 4.11 guys cry if they tried me rolling Still regret selling that car in Cherry Point NC .. bet someone still has it.
My 444 rotating assy is done, sending Paul final payment today ... was going to start another thread others might find usefull to "Putting motor together at home strategy- where to draw the line". Everyone is trying to coax me to aluminum heads but I am going to go with my iron 96's, someone put effort into porting them and they look beautifully done to me. I am going to add 7mm ss valves, possibly glyptal intake ports and add my cryod valve train with Nunzi or Hojo cam. Am trying to figure which trans to try .. have the 69TH400 and a rebuilt TH350 ... both would work with the factory console Hurst 1/4 stick I finally found. Was thinking a 200R4 would be a nice modernization and might work great with 3.08 but dont think shifter will work with it. I am going to call Shiftworks and see if they can convert that shifter.Thinking frame connectors and Cal-trac bars for 71 Formula, Jegs has Cal-trac .. looking for frame connectors.

I remember a guy who owned a junk yard. He had a 72 Ventura and used to turn 11s all day long. We all thought he built some kind of special motor. Turns out he used to look for 1968-1970 big Pontiac motors. Then bolt his intake and carb (Holley), headers and ignition (iron single points distributor with a Mark 10 CD box). He hit the mother load when he got a demolished 70 Grand Prix with a 455. He was turning low 11s with that combo..
The thing is he never did anything to the heads, pistons, block etc.
